Other things I am working on:

Grand opening event February 12, 13, and 14th.

Orders are arriving and so are the door prizes, some of my suppliers have been very generous. I ordered some specially priced yarn that was available..fun stuff but great quality at a wonderful price!

This week I ordered from Briggs and Little, Cabin Fever and Mission Falls... all great Canadian Companies. I am looking forward to unpacking these shipments...finding room might be interesting.

Lessons, yes finally. Beginning February 18th, a beginners class and the 'knitting help' sessions will begin. The beginners class is for the complete novice knitter and the 'knitting help' sessions are for the knitters who would like some help with a project. Both classes are limited to 4 students each. (Beginners $30.00 for 3 lessons, knitting help $5.00 per session, with a limit of 3 weeks in a row.)

Then there are still some renovations, windows are complete and now to the shelving in the back room.

Then there is the snow shovelling...I hope it stops soon!

I changed my mind...again!

Technically the store is not really ready, windows are still under construction and electrical guys are coming tomorrow to put up some fixtures! This is my first window...its too cold to take it from outside.

For those of you who know Bowmanville, Rick and Carole Gould, the owners of Gould's Cards and Gifts have sold their business and it is now called Quilter's Boutique. (The space I am renting right now was Rick Gould's photo shop 25 years ago.) Rhonda and I are planning 'Grand opening events' that will happen on February 12, 13, and 14. If you are a knitter that quilts or a quilter that knits, you will have a lot to see that weekend.

As for me..I am in the process of collecting door prizes, coming up with an interesting 'competition' and there is a trunk show coming from a new supplier! Keep that weekend in mind and hope for good weather.

I have decided about classes! Just haven't established starting dates. Two classes to start: a very basic beginners class..called 'sticks and string' and a knitting help session, called 'rent a chair'. I will give you more details later this week.

The beginners class will involve making 3 dish cloths. Practical and not too intimidating. I am busy making samples for the class.

The shop is beginning to look like a real store everyday.
There are a few empty spaces waiting for more yarn, a small selection of Addi Turbos arrived last week and I managed to find 6 very nice chairs.

Updates and Info!

A snowy day here in Bowmanville. I've shovelled the sidewalk 3 times today. Customers have plowed their way here. The store is in a bit of a mess, I bought 2 new Ikea units to fill with more yarn...then I bought more yarn!

I am thinking about a 'grand opening weekend event', time to sign up for the lessons I am still planning and to give away the door prizes I have collected from suppliers. I think that if I plan to the event last 3 days one day will be nice enough for people to drive here. (The weather this time of the year is so unpredictable.) So far I am aiming for January 22 - 24th, depending on a supplier and possible trunk show!

I ordered a selection of Addi turbo needles, and planning some other new and interesting lines.

I will keep you posted.

My First Month and Year!

Thank-you to everyone who has come to visit me in my new shop. Due to accounting issues the end of December also marks the end of my fiscal year. (Explain that to your bank!) On paper things look kind of strange, but inventory was a piece of cake, just subtract what I sold from the purchases and voila things are done (just don't tell my accountant that!)

Someone asked me the other day if I was having fun, and yes I truly am. This adventure has been challenging at times, but everyday at the store, even the very quiet days, has been an absolute pleasure.

I have met so many wonderful people, all who share my passion for knitting and beautiful yarn.

Thank-you to everyone who has made a visit to my new Yarn shop. I been blessed with visits from some of the nicest yarn lovers in the area. Your positive remarks and your kind words have meant a lot to me.

I am taking a few days to recover from all the renovations and turmoil that this new adventure has caused. This week:

New this week on the 'lets see what else can go wrong front': ....hard drive on new computer failed... they think they can recover the data!

Imagine a yarn shop with knitting needles and crochet hooks!

Yes the needles and accessories arrived yesterday! Special delivery, I am meeting the nicest people.

Now I have every size in a basic needle...still saving up for that big order of expensive needles. So if you need a size to get through a project I probably have it in stock. (I phoned sales rep extraordinaire to say that I have toooo many... thought she might like a call that wasn't a complaint...she laughed)

So I have yarn, patterns, buttons, a sock rack and now needles. Things are coming together.

Now my thoughts are about lessons...lots of lessons according to the customers that have been travelling through. . Some want basic knitting others want challenges. So I am thinking! Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

I suppose I should find some chairs!
